Enough is enough,’ source familiar with Saudi thinking says
WASHINGTON

“Enough is enough. Again and again Tehran has thumbed their nose at the West. They continue to sponsor terrorism and launch ballistic missiles and no one is doing anything about it,” said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“Every time the Iranians do something, the U.S. backs off. In the meantime, Saudi (Arabia) is actually doing something about it in Syria, in Iran and in Yemen,” the source added. “The Saudis really don’t care if they anger the White House.” Read more.

The recent execution of 47 prisoners by the Saudi regime, 43 of whom were al-Qaeda prisoners, and one of the 47 was a prominent preacher of Shiism, Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, is shocking to world leaders. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned Saudi Arabia of “divine revenge” over al-Nimr’s execution, while Riyadh accused Tehran of supporting “terrorism.” Read more.

The message the Saudis communicated to the world and to its opponents is that dissent will not be tolerated. The Islamic State had just released (December 15, 2015) its 15 video series through its media outlets with the primary objective of delegitimizing the Saudi ruling family, the al-Saud family. Read more. With the execution of the 47, a statement was made loud and clear to any Saudis who sought to join the Islamic State against the regime that doing so would result in a similar fate. A parallel message was given to Iran, America’s most recent bed-fellow, that its nuclear proliferation in the Middle East will likewise result in a similar fate. Tensions continue to escalate as Iran has accused the Saudis of launching missiles at its embassy in Yemen, to which the Saudis have denied.
