The line-in-the-sand seems to be getting deeper and deeper as the new U.S. Administration actively stands with Israel (rather than just talking about it). The Times of Israel reports:
US boycotts UN discussion on Israeli human rights abuses. State Department slams Human Rights Council for ‘longstanding bias’ against Jewish state that ‘threatens its credibility. ’BY TIMES OF ISRAEL STAFF March 20, 2017, 3:13 pm.
The US on Monday issued a strongly worded statement accusing a United Nations body of longstanding bias against Israel. Amid threats from Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to withdraw entirely from the United Nations Human Rights Council, the State Department announced it would boycott the council’s entire Monday discussion about alleged human rights abuses committed by Israel and vote against any resolutions that came from it.
“The United States strongly and unequivocally opposes the existence of the UN Human Rights Council’s Agenda Item Seven: ‘Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories,’” acting spokesperson Mark Toner said in a statement. Read more.
The U.S. action follows last week’s stance by the U.S. condemning a report by the Human Rights Council accusing Israel of establishing an “apartheid regime” against the Palestinians. Read more. After the U.S.’s condemnation, the United Nations withdrew the report resulting in the resignation of the chairman of the Human Rights Council.
It matters by the way. Any news about Israel and the Palestinians matters. Why so? Because we must always be aware of the trend of anti-Semitism in the world, i.e., those standing against the “cause of Zion” (Isaiah 34:8). The greater the divide between those who stand with Israel and those who stand against Israel, the closer we are to the gathering of the nations for judgment (Zechariah 12:2-3).
Jesus come quickly.
Blessings.
